LOVE | SERVE | GIVE Weeks are about meeting needs, within our community and to be the hands and feet of Christ and show people His love by meeting practical needs. There’s so many ways to do this.  Our goal this year is to serve 1500 hours as a church. Loving, serving and giving outside the four walls.   It’s exciting to think about how God will use us! Just pick a project (or two or three!), ask others to join you to BE SALT and LIGHT!!

food prep assistance

LOCATION:   urban bicycle food ministry - 204 North Second St. memphis, tn  38103

NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: 2

Urban Bicycle Food Ministry feeds the homeless in Memphis twice weekly via bicycle. They meet each Wednesday evening and Saturday morning to prepare 200 - 300 burritos and hot dogs.  They are then loaded into packs and trailers, along with other supplies, and disbursed by the UBFM bikers.   The bikers seek out those on the streets needing a meal, and a few moments of friendship and love.  Volunteers will assist in preparing burritos.   **NO CHILDREN ARE ALLOWED TO SERVE.

LOCATION:  room in the inn - 212 n. second st., MPHS, TN 38105

# OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  4  (ages 17 & up) 

Room in the Inn-Memphis is a ministry that serves people experiencing homelessness by providing emergency shelter and meals during the coldest months of the year—November through March.  Their goal is to share the love of God through hospitality.  Shelter is a basic necessity that more than 2,000 people in Memphis are living without each night.  Volunteers help prepare coffee and make sure the space is clean and ready for guests to arrive.

SERVE DINNER TO GUESTS  

LOCATION:  MEMPHIS UNION MISSION - 383 POPLAR AVE., MPHS, TN 38105

# OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  20  (ages 12 & up) 

Memphis’ oldest and largest rescue mission, the Memphis Union Mission ministers to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of menwomen and  who are homeless, addicted, and in crisis.  

Every day of the year, the Mission provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Providing over 313,000 meals for the hungry.  A meal is a precious gift for the men, women, and children who join us each day for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner at Memphis Union Mission. For many, the food we provide may be the only nutrition they receive.  Volunteers will assist in serving dinner.

# OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  5

The goal of Friends For Life is to be the provider of hope, help and healing for our neighbors affected by HIV/AIDS.  Twice-monthly the congregate meal program offers clients hot, nutritious meals in a setting that encourages fellowship and friendship.  Meals and entertainment are offered to both clients and their loved ones and are provided in the dining hall of St. John United Methodist Church in Midtown Memphis.  Volunteers will be responsible for interacting with clients, assisting them in packing food and possibly transporting to their vehicle.

MidSouth Health and Rehabilitation Center is a licensed skilled and intermediate care center located in the North Memphis - Frayser community. The facility offers a wide variety of services including Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Diet Management and Wound Care.   Volunteers will be responsible for transporting patients from rooms to event area, engaging in conversation and encouraging activity participation.

LOCATION: DOROTHY DAY HOUSE - 1429 poplar ave. memphis, tn 38104

# OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  5

The Dorothy Day House keeps homeless families together, creating a safe haven and a community for entire families. In typical shelters, homeless families are often separated.  Men are sent to one shelter while women, girls and little boys are sent to another shelter.  DDH welcomes the whole family at the Dorothy Day House and encourage the strengthening of family bonds during this time of trauma.  Because several families are housed together at a time, residents are able to offer mutual support and encouragement as they face and overcome the shared obstacles of poverty and homelessness. Families work together to clean and maintain the house and to cook meals.  Volunteers will assist with cleaning and sorting donated clothing.
